Nokia PC Suite
Nokia PC Suite allows you to connect your Nokia phone with a PC, and provides you with a wide range of applications to manage your phone on your PC. Nokia PC Suite can be used with compatible Nokia mobile phones. However, not all Nokia PC Suite features and applications can be used with all phone models. For more information on the PC Suite features supported by your phone, and information on phones supported by various PC Suite versions, refer to the www.nokiausa.com/pcsuite pages.
The Get Connected wizard consists of the following steps:
Have your mobile phone and the connectivity accessories at hand, for example
a connectivity cable if you want to use cable connection.
Get Connected opens automatically when you install Nokia PC Suite. You can
also return to it later on if you want to establish a new connection between
the phone and PC or start using another connection type. To do this, select Settings
> Manage connections in the Nokia PC Suite main window.
Get Connected shows a list of the connection types available in your computer. Possible connection types are:
Also, please note that not all phone models support all the connection types
listed in Get Connected. Refer to the user's guide of your mobile phone for
more information on the supported connection types.
If you already have an active connection and attempt to create a new connection of the same type, Get Connected asks for confirmation before it creates another connection of the same type.
1. Switch on the phone.
If Get Connected lists infrared (IrDA) as one of the connection types, your
computer is IrDA-compliant. In addition, your PC needs to have an integrated or
external IrDA receiver. Not all phone models support infrared - refer to your
phone's user's guide for more information on infrared availability and
activation instructions.
To connect a phone to a PC via infrared
1. Switch on the phone.
You can use Bluetooth wireless technology to connect a mobile phone with Bluetooth connectivity to a compatible PC. If Get Connected lists Bluetooth in the connection types, you have a PC with Bluetooth connectivity, that is, with appropriate Bluetooth wireless technology software installed. In addition, your PC needs to have a Bluetooth adapter plugged in. When connecting via Bluetooth wireless technology, the phone and PC must be within a 10 meter radius of each other (about 30 feet).
If you are connecting your Nokia phone to the PC using Bluetooth wireless technology for the first time, you need to pair the devices using Nokia PC Suite's Get Connected wizard. Pairing means that you code two Bluetooth devices to communicate so they can exchange data.
Bluetooth wireless technology uses two different methods of pairing:
To pair your phone and PC, follow either instructions A or B explained
below.
Create your own pass code (1-16 characters, numeric):
After the phone and PC have been connected, Get Connected shows the connection details. These details include information on the connected phone and connection type.
Now you can start using the Nokia PC Suite applications that require PC
connectivity. To access an application, press its icon in the Nokia PC Suite
main window or right-click the Nokia PC Suite icon in the Windows notification
area, at the far right end of the taskbar, and select the application you want
to use.
If you want to start an online demo, select the PC Suite demo option on the last page of Get Connected. The demo shows you how Nokia PC Suite works and how to use the various applications. The demo requires a network connection.
Note:
The Phone Selector dialog opens if there is more than one phone connected to the PC. In the dialog, you select which phone to use with Nokia PC Suite.
The detected phones can be seen on the Phone Selector list. If a phone name is disabled (grey), the phone model is not supported by the application you are using or you are having problems connecting your phone to the PC. Try re-connecting your phone and PC in Nokia Connection Manager or Get Connected.
Click Connection... to activate/deactivate connection types or to configure communication ports for the appropriate connection types.
To be able to use One Touch Access, you need to have modem drivers installed on your PC. Nokia PC Suite automatically installs the modem drivers listed below depending on the connection type you are using:

To
install and run Nokia PC Suite applications, you need:
- At least 300 MB of free disk space
- One of the following operating systems:
- Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit editions
- Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit editions (Service Pack
1)
- Windows XP Professional x64 edition (Service Pack 2)
- Windows XP (Professional or Home Edition) (Service Pack
2 or later)
- Administrator rights to the PC to install software on
it.
Get
Connected wizard
The Get Connected wizard helps you to connect your mobile phone to a PC.
After you have completed the wizard steps, you have established a connection
between your phone and the PC, and can start using Nokia PC Suite applications.The Get Connected wizard consists of the following steps:
·
Select which connection type to use when
connecting the phone to the PC. This can be cable, infrared or Bluetooth
wireless technology.
·
Establish and configure the connection.
Tip:
Selecting
connection types
Get Connected shows a list of the connection types available in your computer. Possible connection types are:
·
USB cable
·
infrared (IrDA)
·
Bluetooth wireless technology.
If you already have an active connection and attempt to create a new connection of the same type, Get Connected asks for confirmation before it creates another connection of the same type.
USB Cable connection:
1. Switch on the phone.
2. Connect
the cable to the PC when prompted to do so by Get Connected, and then connect
the other end of the cable to the phone.
3. The
first time you use cable connection, you have to wait until Get Connected
finishes installing the required cable drivers. Accept possible notifications
that appear on the PC screen. When the settings have been completed and
connection is established, Get Connected shows the connection details.
Note:
When you connect your phone to the PC via USB cable, make
sure you have the default mode, Nokia mode or PC Suite mode selected in your
phone if you want to use Nokia PC Suite with your phone. Nokia PC Suite
switches your phone automatically to the correct USB mode if needed and if
supported by your phone model. See the user guide of your phone for more
detailed information on the USB modes available.
To connect a phone to a PC via infrared
1. Switch on the phone.
2. Activate
infrared reception on your phone.
3. If
you are using a Symbian phone, make sure that you have selected to use the
infrared connection type on your phone.
4. Ensure
that the IR ports of the phone and PC are pointing at each other and that there
are no obstructions between the two devices.
Note:
When connecting via infrared, the preferable distance between
the two devices is one meter (about three feet) at most.
If your PC cannot detect the phone, check that the PC's
infrared port is activated. To find troubleshooting information on Nokia PC
Suite, you can browse the FAQ search database on the Nokia web pages. To do
this, go to the Nokia PC Suite main window and click Web > Nokia PC Suite
on the web > FAQ. Note that this requires an Internet connection.
Bluetooth Connection
You can use Bluetooth wireless technology to connect a mobile phone with Bluetooth connectivity to a compatible PC. If Get Connected lists Bluetooth in the connection types, you have a PC with Bluetooth connectivity, that is, with appropriate Bluetooth wireless technology software installed. In addition, your PC needs to have a Bluetooth adapter plugged in. When connecting via Bluetooth wireless technology, the phone and PC must be within a 10 meter radius of each other (about 30 feet).
1. Activate
the Bluetooth wireless technology connection on your phone and make sure that
you have made your phone visible in the phone's Bluetooth settings. When you
activate Bluetooth for the first time, you are asked to give a name to your
phone. This name will be used whenever you pair your phone and the PC and it
can also been seen by other Bluetooth device users.
2. Make
sure the Bluetooth adapter is plugged in to the PC.
Bluetooth Device Selection
1. Wait
while Get Connected searches for supported Bluetooth devices in the range.
2. Select
your phone from the list of detected devices.
3. Click
Next.
Tip:
If your phone appears on the list of detected devices before
the search is complete, you can click Stop search, and select your phone
from the list.
Note:
If Get Connected cannot find your phone’s name immediately,
the phone's Bluetooth address is displayed instead. Click Search for more
phones to re-run the search.
Bluetooth
Pairing
If you are connecting your Nokia phone to the PC using Bluetooth wireless technology for the first time, you need to pair the devices using Nokia PC Suite's Get Connected wizard. Pairing means that you code two Bluetooth devices to communicate so they can exchange data.
Bluetooth wireless technology uses two different methods of pairing:

A method where you enter a passcode on your
phone.
·
A method where you compare the passcodes
displayed on your phone and PC.
Note:
When pairing the two devices, follow the instructions both on
the PC screen and on the phone's display.
To pair
your phone and PC
A.
1. Enter
a passcode:Use
the passcode generated by Get Connected:
First, press Next in
Get Connected and then enter the passcode on your phone when the phone's
display prompts you to do this.

Create your own pass code (1-16 characters, numeric):
First, enter the passcode on
the PC and enter the same passcode on your phone when the phone's display
prompts you to do this.
In both cases, the passcode is used only once and you do not need to memorize it.

2. Authorize
the connection between your Nokia phone and your PC. Select Yes when the
connection request appears on the phone’s display.
Note:
You can set your PC as authorized, which means that
individual connections between your phone and your PC do not need a separate
authorization. Find the Paired devices view on your phone, select your PC, and
edit the PC to be authorized or trusted, depending on the term used in your
phone.
Connection
established
After the phone and PC have been connected, Get Connected shows the connection details. These details include information on the connected phone and connection type.
Tip:
You can rename your phone in the main window of Nokia PC
Suite. To do this, click Settings > Rename phone and type a new name
in the field showing the connected phone's name.
If you want to start an online demo, select the PC Suite demo option on the last page of Get Connected. The demo shows you how Nokia PC Suite works and how to use the various applications. The demo requires a network connection.
Note:
You can return to Get Connected later on if you want to
establish a new connection between the phone and PC or start using another
connection type. To do this, select Settings > Manage connections in
the Nokia PC Suite main window.
Phone
Selector
The Phone Selector dialog opens if there is more than one phone connected to the PC. In the dialog, you select which phone to use with Nokia PC Suite.
The detected phones can be seen on the Phone Selector list. If a phone name is disabled (grey), the phone model is not supported by the application you are using or you are having problems connecting your phone to the PC. Try re-connecting your phone and PC in Nokia Connection Manager or Get Connected.
Click Connection... to activate/deactivate connection types or to configure communication ports for the appropriate connection types.
Note:
If you cannot see your phone in Phone Selector, the
connection type your phone is using is not active in Nokia Connection Manager.
Open Nokia Connection Manager and select the appropriate connection type(s). A
selected connection type has a check mark in the box in front of it.
Connect to the internet
One Touch Access
With One Touch Access, you can establish network connections using packet
data (in GPRS or 3G networks, depending on the phone and network capabilities).
Connection can be established via cable, infrared, or Bluetooth wireless
technology.To be able to use One Touch Access, you need to have modem drivers installed on your PC. Nokia PC Suite automatically installs the modem drivers listed below depending on the connection type you are using:
·
Modem drivers for the supported USB and serial
cables.
·
Nokia infrared modem for an infrared connection.
·
PC Connectivity Bluetooth modem for a Bluetooth
wireless technology connection. In addition, if you have Microsoft Bluetooth
installed on your PC, a standard Bluetooth modem is installed automatically.
You can use either the PC Connectivity Bluetooth modem or the standard
Bluetooth modem.

Using your phone as a modem
You can create a network connection to the Internet by using your phone as a modem with a variety of commercially available data communications applications. A connection can be established via cable, infrared, or Bluetooth wireless technology.To use your phone as a modem, you must have the following:
·
Appropriate data communications software
installed on your PC.
·
A subscription to the appropriate network
services from your home service provider or Internet service provider.
·
The appropriate modem drivers installed on your
PC. Nokia PC Suite installs these automatically.
To use your
phone as a modem
1. Connect
your phone to the PC.
Depending on what connection type
you want to use and what your phone and PC support, you should
o activate
the IR port of your phone. Place the phone and the PC so that the IR ports of
the two devices point at each other. If you are using a Symbian phone, make
sure that you have selected to use the infrared modem on your phone. See the
user's guide of your phone for more detailed information.
o connect
the cable to the PC first and then connect the other end of the cable to the
phone.
o activate
the Bluetooth wireless technology connection of your phone and pair your phone
with the PC using Get Connected.
2. If
you have been using your phone with other Nokia PC Suite applications, disable
all connection types from Nokia Connection Manager.
3. Create
the data connection with the connection program of the PC (for example,
"Network Connection" in Windows XP).
4. Select
the modem you want to use. You can select either Nokia xxxx Cable, Nokia xxxx
USB, or Nokia xxxx IrDA as the modem (xxxx stands for the model number of the
phone), or PC Connectivity Bluetooth, depending on the phone you are using and
the modems you have installed. Then make the data call.
5. When
you want to continue using other Nokia PC Suite applications, end the data
call, and select the connection types you want to use in the Nokia Connection
Manager again.
